Three city manager finalists interviewed Monday
Final interviews for the top three candidates for the Birmingham City Manager position will be held on Monday, March 13, at 6 p.m., at a special city commission meeting immediately before the regular commission meeting.
The three city manager finalists are Troy Bell, former city manager of Muskegon Heights, Michigan; Jana Ecker, assistant city manager of Birmingham, Michigan; and Blaine Wing, interim village manager of Sparta, Michigan.
Current city manager Tom Markus will complete his 2.5 year term on June 30, 2023. Before returning in January 2021, Markus had served the city of Birmingham for 22 years as city manager.
The city manager serves as the chief administrative officer of the city and is appointed by the city commission. The office of the city manager coordinates the activities of all city departments and is responsible for directing the administration of the city government, appointing all department heads, other than the city clerk, preparing the annual city budget and a long-range capital improvements program, as well as implementing the policies that are adopted by the city commission.
The meeting on Monday, March 13, is open to the public to attend in person, by local cable or via Zoom.
