Man scammed with lawyer’s hacked email
When the email address of his lawyer’s law firm was hacked at the end of February, a Birmingham resident, living on the 1000 block of N. Glenhurst Drive, was scammed out of $40,000 in Bitcoin.
According to the victim, who reported the incident to Birmingham police on Monday, March 10, the scammer impersonated both his lawyer and a support representative from the cryptocurrency website. He was not made aware that the law firm’s email had been hacked until Friday, February 21, after he had sent the cryptocurrency.
Birmingham police report an investigation is ongoing.
