Man charged with Birmingham armed robbery
A 35-year old man from Pontiac, Joel Stalker, has been charged with armed robbery, felony firearm, and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer by Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald after allegedly robbing a Birmingham Kroger while armed with a gun.
At roughly 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, an employee of the Kroger on Maple Road and Woodward Avenue in Birmingham called the police reporting that a man armed with a gun was in the store making threats.
According to a press release from the Birmingham Police Department, the man stole a prepaid cell phone and pulled a pistol on employees who tried to stop him. Stalker reportedly left the store and headed for Woodward Avenue through the back parking lot, according to police.
Birmingham officers were able to find the suspect hiding in the bushes of the Flagstar Bank parking lot, eventually taking him into custody after attempting to get away.
McDonald stated in a press release that Stalker was arraigned on Monday, February 26, in the 48th District Court before Judge Andra Richardson and had a bond set at $100,000, no 10 percent.
