Everyone invited to decorate construction area
The Birmingham Shopping District (BSD) is inviting everyone to participate in an art contest decorating the pedestrian barricades throughout the S. Old Woodward construction area in downtown Birmingham.
Now through Friday, June 10, students, art professionals, art enthusiasts, community groups and Birmingham businesses are invited to apply at ALLINBirmingham.com to receive up to two barricade panels, approximately eight-feet wide by four-feet high each, to paint, beginning June 15 through June 29. Painting participants supply their own paint and materials.
From July 11 through July 31, the community is invited to vote for their favorite design only at ALLINBirmingham.com/vote, which only goes live on July 11. Once voting is complete, all winners will be announced and awarded a Birmingham Bucks E-gift card to spend at over 70 retailers and restaurants in downtown Birmingham.
Best of all – the winning artwork will be displayed throughout the S. Old Woodward Reconstruction Phase 3 project, expected to continue through October.
“We are committed to offering shopper incentives that encourage the community’s support of Birmingham businesses during construction,” said Jaimi Brook, BSD operations and events manager. “We encourage people to visit downtown Birmingham not only to shop and dine, but also to walk through the downtown area and enjoy the beautiful community artwork on display.”
