Drivers with warrants arrested in traffic stops
Two men, both with warrants issued for their arrest, were arrested by Birmingham police on Sunday, December 22, in separate instances after both had been pulled over while driving.
The first instance happened around 2:30 a.m. when officers patrolling Woodward Avenue near Bowers noticed a car driving with its headlights off. The officer reportedly initiated the traffic stop when the driver neared 14 Mile. After stopping the driver, a man from Waterford, he reportedly alerted Birmingham police to a warrant for his arrest in Waterford.
Birmingham police placed him under arrest and issued a citation for improper use of lights, then transferred him to the custody of Waterford Police.
Later that night, around 11 p.m., a different driver was apprehended for a warrant issued from the Royal Oak Police Department. Birmingham police officers out patrolling ran the license plate of the car that was driving in front of them and were informed that the registered owner of the car had a warrant issued out of Royal Oak.
Reportedly, the officers confirmed the owner of the car was the one driving at that time and pulled him over. The driver, a man from Detroit, was then arrested and transferred to the Royal Oak Police Department.
