Delinquent assessments placed on tax roll
By Dana Casadei
As they have for many years, the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees went through the process of once again authorizing to put the delinquent amount for unpaid and past due special assessments – as of September 30 – on the December 2024 tax roll.
This was approved 6-0 at their meeting on Monday, August 26. Trustee Neil Barnett was absent.
This special assessment billing resolution was adopted by the board of trustees in 2003, and authorizes the treasurer’s department to apply any unpaid special assessments on the
respective years’ winter tax statement that would otherwise go delinquent to the Oakland County Treasurer's Office for collection if they were unpaid as of the March 1 cut off date.
If the special assessments that were in the packet for the August 26 meeting are still
unpaid by March 1, 2025, they will then be sent to Oakland County as delinquent. This allows Oakland County to make Bloomfield Township whole, and transfers the collection responsibility to the county.
There are currently 18 unpaid items, which range from street lighting projects to code violations and mowing that took place at different special assessment districts across the township.
