Check stolen and cashed by cleaning woman

:

On Friday, January 17, at approximately 3 p.m., a male resident of the 100 block of Willits in Birmingham came to the police department to report that someone committed fraud by cashing a check of his illegally.

According to the resident, someone had stolen a check from his checkbook, forged his signature and withdrew $5,000 from his account.

The check was written as payable to a 22-year-old Warren woman, one of two women he hired to clean his home in early December, according to the police report.

Police officials said an investigation is ongoing.
