Auto break-in and car theft suspect arrested

A suspect in the break-in on nearly a dozen Bloomfield Township vehicles last January 19 and the recent theft of an auto in Birmingham is now under arrest and has been arraigned in the 48th district court.
After a lengthy investigation by the Bloomfield Township Police Department and the Troy Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the suspect, Samuel Bender Jr. of Harper Woods, 33-years of age, was identified.
On Thursday, April 3, he was taken into custody through a collaborative effort between Troy SIU and the Detroit Police Department. At the time of arrest Samuel Bender Jr. was in possession of a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been
stolen out of Birmingham within the past week.
This case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office which issued a five-count felony warrant: four counts of breaking and entering an automobile and one count of larceny from automobile.
District Court Magistrate Nelson-Klein from the 48th District Court arraigned the suspect and issued a $5 million cash bond.
