Woodward Dream Cruise revs up August 17
While the engines have been revving up all summer long, and lawn chairs propping up along Woodward, officially the Woodward Dream Cruise will take place on Saturday, August 17, bringing approximately 40,000 classic cars and more than one million people to Woodward Avenue, where they'll cruise the stretch from 8 Mile to Pontiac.
Adding to the festivities, the Birmingham Cruise Event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located on South Old Woodward from Maple to Lincoln.
Birmingham's event features 300 classic cars of all makes and models, sponsor exhibits and fun live entertainment. Enjoy seeing Corvettes, Thunderbirds, Model A's, Mustangs, Rolls Royce and lots more. Car lovers can stop off at food vendors offering freshly-squeezed lemonade, hot dogs, kettle corn, roasted corn, baked goods and frozen treats.
Two cover bands, Collision Six and Cancel Monday, will perform live from noon – 5 p.m. In addition, Falken Tires will have an interactive display in the event area.
The Chevrolet exhibit will host a variety of displays to include the new 2019 Chevy Corvette Stingray. Both WXYZ Channel 7 and WOMC 104.3 FM will broadcast live throughout the day.
Event day registration is open to individual cars, model year 1988 and older, on a first come, first served basis after 9:30 on event day. Enter off Woodward Avenue on Brown Street, at Jax Kar Wash. Fee is $40 per car.
Bloomfield Township will hold its Dream Cruise event, the Bill Wells Car Club Classic and Township Classic Car Show, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, August 17, at the Mercedes Benz of Bloomfield Township dealership and neighboring Comerica branch on Woodward south of Big Beaver.
Participants are invited to register their classic car for the Township Classic Car Show. Registration forms can be found at bloomfieldtwp.org.
Proceeds from the township events benefit the Bloomfield Township Police Benevolent Fund,the Bloomfield Township Fire Department Charities and the Bloomfield Hills Optimists Club.
