Township police to host Citizens Academy

The Bloomfield Township Police Department this summer will host a Citizens' Academy to allow residents to learn about different aspects of law enforcement.

The academy will run from June 25 to July 23, and meet each Tuesday night from 6 p.m. to about 9 p.m. The academy is open to all Bloomfield Township residents over 18 years old. Non-residents may participate on a case-by-case basis; however, township residents will be given priority.

Topics to be covered in the academy include police patrol; use of the K-9; traffic crash investigation; radio communications and dispatch operations; crime scene forensics; police equipment; AED and CPR training; and other related topics.

Former academy students are welcome to attend again, as the department changes content for each academy. A brief criminal history check is required for each applicant with most minor offenses not precluding participation.
