Birmingham Farmers Market opens May 5

It's officially spring, with warm breezes, sunny skies, and the opening of the Birmingham Farmer's Market on Sunday, May, 5 in Birmingham's Public Parking Lot 6 from 9 a.m until 2 p.m., all summer long.

This year – its 17th season, will feature an Opening Day celebration that will include spring flowers, fresh produce and live music. The market will be open from 9a.m. until 2p.m. every Sunday, May through October.

Open rain or shine, the lively, family-friendly outdoor market, located on the east side of N. Old Woodward, right across from Salvatore Scallopini and Luxe restaurants and Booth Park, offers a hometown experience that’s fun for all ages, with produce, fresh prepared foods, live music, a children’s craft area, special events, and lots of celebratory seasonal events. Throughout the season, more than 50 booths will feature a diverse array of locally and regionally grown produce focused on vegetables, fruits, flowers and garden plants, along with baked goods, hand-crafted items, soaps, organic pet treats and decorative and garden items.

By mid- to late-May, winter weary shoppers will find lettuce, kale, rhubarb, asparagus, white onions and sugar peas, as well as spring floral arrangements, potted plants, hanging baskets and flats. The market also highlights baked goods, freshly prepared foods, spices, eggs, honey, jams and jellies, fresh meat, poultry, soaps, and dog treats.

Upcoming events include the popular Chef's Clash on June 23; the Corn Festival on August 11; the Harvest Fest September 15; and the End of Season Celebration on October 27.
