Rochester Hills Carson's in Village to close
About 130 Carson's employees will be affected this summer when the department store chain closes its Rochester Hills store, 400 N. Adams Road, in the Village of Rochester, as part of a several closings planned this year.
The Bon-Ton Stores, which owns Carson's, announced on Thursday, April 5, it would close three southeast Michigan Carson's locations this year, as well as a Younkers store, in Grandville. The closings come about two months after Bon-Ton announced it would close almost 50 stores in Michigan, Illinois, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin. That announcement included Carson's in Benton Harbor and Elder-Beerman in Adrian.
The latest round of closings include four Michigan locations, including Carson's in Rochester Hills, Livonia, and Clinton Township, as well as the Grandville Younkers location.
The date of the closures is anticipated to be June 5, 2018, according to a letter released by Bon-Ton.
"The timetable for the closing is based on the best information available, although it is subject to change as we evaluate our options, including options of selling the business and continuing as a going concern and subject to any actions of the bankruptcy court," Bon-Ton Stores Vice President Gail Monreal said in the letter. "Specifically, on or about February 4, 2018, the company filed for Chapter 11 protection under the Bankruptcy Code and since that date has been actively engaged in efforts to reorganize the business or sell the business."
