City considers school-police liaison program

Rochester Hills City Council on Monday, September 25 will consider approving more than $280,000 for participation in the Police School Liaison Program for the 2017-18 school year. The program, which provides three Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies and two Rochester Police officers at various points in the year, is paid for each year by the cities of Rochester and Rochester Hills, as well as Oakland Township and Rochester Community Schools. Under the proposed program, Rochester Hills would pay about 68 percent of the $592,428 total cost of the program, or $281,778. Oakland Township would pay about 20.8 percent, or $86,078, and Rochester would pay $46,464, or 11.2 percent. The Rochester Community School District would contribute about 25 percent of the cost of the program, or about $138,107, plus $40,000 in overtime costs, for a total of $178,107. Rochester Hills City Council is expected to consider the the contract following the approval of the city's 2018 Fiscal Year budget, as well as the annual budgets for the Rochester Avon Recreational Authority and the Older Persons Commission. The latter two entities receive also receive funding from both the cities of Rochester and Rochester Hills.
